A rich and comforting Apple Butter Pie featuring a flaky pie crust filled with a spiced apple butter custard, perfect for cozy autumn gatherings or a delightful dessert any time of year.

Ingredients

Scale

Pie Crust

  • 1 pie crust (store-bought or homemade), chilled

Filling

  • 1 cup apple butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pie Crust: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish, pressing it evenly against the bottom and sides. Trim any excess dough and crimp the edges decoratively if desired.
  2. Mix Filling Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the apple butter, brown sugar, eggs, heavy cream, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until the mixture is completely smooth and well combined.
  3. Pour Filling Into Crust: Pour the prepared filling into the pie crust, spreading it evenly. Make sure the filling is smooth on top for an even bake.
  4. Bake the Pie: Place the pie on the center rack of the oven and bake for about 45-55 minutes, or until the center is just set and a knife inserted near the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.
  5. Cool Before Slicing: Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool completely on a wire rack, which helps the filling set fully for clean slices. Once cooled, cut into slices and serve.

Notes

  • Allow the pie to cool completely before slicing to ensure the filling sets properly and slices cleanly.
  • You can use a store-bought pie crust to save time or prepare your favorite homemade crust for a personal touch.
  • Adjust spices according to your preference; adding a pinch of ground cloves or allspice can enhance the flavor.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
