4.5 from 62 reviews

This Cinnamon Sugar Sourdough Bread combines the tangy flavor of traditional sourdough with a sweet, aromatic cinnamon sugar swirl, creating a delightful loaf that’s perfect for breakfast or a cozy snack. The bread is crafted with a natural sourdough starter, giving it a chewy texture and complex depth, while the cinnamon sugar adds a warm, sweet contrast baked into each slice.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough:

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water (warm)

Cinnamon Sugar Swirl:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the active sourdough starter, warm water, and flour. Mix until a rough dough forms, then add salt. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise at room temperature for 4 to 6 hours, or until doubled in size.
  2. Add Cinnamon Sugar Swirl: Roll out the dough into a rectangular shape on a floured surface. Mix the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon together. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar evenly over the dough. Starting from one edge, tightly roll up the dough into a log, pinching the edges to seal.
  3. Bake Until Golden: Place the rolled dough into a greased loaf pan or on a baking sheet. Cover and allow to rise a second time for 1 to 2 hours until puffed. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped. Remove from oven and let cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • Ensure your sourdough starter is active and bubbly for best rising results.
  • Adjust the amount of cinnamon sugar to your taste preference.
  • For an extra crunchy crust, mist the oven with water before baking.
  • Store bread in an airtight container and consume within 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
