Waffle Batter Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Batter: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar (if using). In another bowl, beat the eggs and then mix in the milk and melted butter. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing to ensure light and fluffy waffles.
  2. Preheat the Waffle Iron: Turn on your waffle iron and allow it to preheat fully to avoid sticking and to achieve the perfect crispness.
  3. Cook the Waffles: Lightly grease the waffle iron with butter or cooking spray. Pour enough batter onto the center of the iron to cover the waffle grid, being careful not to overfill. Close the lid and cook until the waffle is golden brown and crisp, usually around 4-5 minutes depending on your waffle iron.
  4. Serve: Carefully remove the waffle from the iron and serve immediately with your favorite toppings such as maple syrup, fresh fruit, or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter; lumps are fine and result in a lighter waffle.
  • For crispier waffles, replace some of the milk with club soda.
  • Waffles can be kept warm in a low oven while you cook the remaining batter.
  • Waffles freeze well; reheat in a toaster for best texture.
