Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 1/2 pound raw shrimp, peeled, deveined, and finely chopped
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped

Wrappers and Frying

  • 20 wonton wrappers
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil, about 2 cups)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a medium bowl, combine the finely chopped shrimp, softened cream cheese, minced garlic, and chopped green onions. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated into a creamy mixture.
  2. Fill and seal the wontons: Place about 1 teaspoon of the shrimp and cream cheese filling into the center of each wonton wrapper. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water using your finger, then fold the wrapper over the filling to form a triangle or purse shape. Press edges firmly to seal completely, ensuring there are no gaps.
  3. Heat the oil: Pour oil into a deep skillet or pot to a depth of about 2 inches and heat it to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to maintain the proper frying temperature.
  4. Fry the Shrimp Rangoon: Carefully place a few wontons at a time into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy, flipping as needed for even cooking.
  5. Drain and serve: Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried wontons and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve warm with sweet chili sauce or soy sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • You can substitute fresh shrimp with frozen, just ensure it is thawed and drained well.
  • Do not overfill the wontons to prevent them from bursting during frying.
  • Maintain the frying oil temperature to keep the Rangoon crispy and prevent them from absorbing too much oil.
  • For a healthier option, these can be baked in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden.
