4.6 from 90 reviews

A quick and easy homemade microwave popcorn recipe using simple ingredients like popcorn kernels, olive oil spray, salt, and pepper. This method allows you to enjoy fresh, hot popcorn without any pre-packaged additives, and it’s ready in just a few minutes using a paper bag in your microwave.

Ingredients

Scale

Popcorn

  • ¼ cup popcorn kernels

Toppings

  • Olive oil spray
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the popcorn kernels: Place ¼ cup of dry popcorn kernels into a small plain paper bag. Ensure the bag is free from staples or any metal to avoid hazards in the microwave.
  2. Fold and microwave: Fold the top of the paper bag over several times to secure it. Microwave the bag on high power for about 2 to 3 minutes. Listen carefully and stop the microwave when there are roughly two seconds between popcorn pops to prevent burning. Note that some kernels may remain unpopped, which is normal.
  3. Season and serve: Carefully pour the popped popcorn into a bowl. Lightly spritz with olive oil spray, then sprinkle with salt and freshly ground pepper to taste. Toss or stir well to evenly coat all the popcorn pieces. Enjoy your fresh homemade microwave popcorn! Remember to save the paper bag for future use.

Notes

  • Do not use a bag with staples or metal parts in the microwave to avoid fire hazards.
  • Microwave times may vary depending on the wattage of your microwave, so adjust accordingly.
  • For a healthier option, use olive oil spray instead of butter or heavy oils.
  • You can customize the seasoning by adding nutritional yeast, chili powder, or Parmesan cheese.
  • Be cautious when opening the bag after microwaving as steam can cause burns.
