This recipe for really easy beefburgers is perfect for a quick, family-friendly meal that kids will love to make and eat. Made with lean minced beef seasoned with mild chili powder, these juicy burgers can be grilled or fried, topped with cheese if desired, and served with fresh salad toppings and your favorite condiments in toasted buns.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Burgers

  • 500g pack lean minced beef, preferably organic
  • 1 tsp mild chilli powder
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

For the Toppings

  • 4 slices mild cheddar cheese (optional, for cheeseburgers)
  • 4 burger buns
  • Choice of lettuce leaves
  • Thinly sliced cucumber
  • Thinly sliced gherkin
  • Thinly sliced tomato
  • Finely chopped red onion

Condiments

  • Ketchup
  • Mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. Flavour the Meat: Place the minced beef in a mixing bowl. Sprinkle over the mild chilli powder along with a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper. Mix thoroughly using your hands or a fork to distribute the seasoning evenly and enhance the flavor without making it too spicy.
  2. Shape into Burgers: Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a round patty about the size and width of your burger buns. Alternatively, use large presentation rings placed on a chopping board to compact the meat, pressing down firmly, then carefully lift off the rings, similar to molding sandcastles.
  3. Cook the Burgers: Heat a griddle or prepare a barbecue. Cook the burgers for 5 minutes on one side, then flip carefully using a metal spatula. At the time of flipping, top each burger with a slice of mild cheddar cheese if making cheeseburgers, allowing it to melt as the other side cooks for another 5 minutes. Be cautious of fat splattering during cooking.
  4. Toast the Buns: When the burgers are nearly finished, slice the burger buns in half and warm them either in a toaster or on the barbecue, taking care not to burn them.
  5. Prepare the Toppings: While the burgers cook, separate lettuce into leaves, and thinly slice the tomato, cucumber, and gherkin on a clean chopping board separate from the raw meat preparation area. Finely chop the red onion as well.
  6. Assemble and Serve: Spread ketchup, mayonnaise, or both onto the toasted bun halves. Place the cooked burger on the bun, then add the prepared salad toppings of your choice. Finish with the top half of the bun and serve immediately for a delicious, hearty beefburger experience.

Notes

  • Use mild chilli powder to add flavor without too much heat, making it kid-friendly.
  • Prepare all ingredients ahead of time so burgers can be cooked and assembled quickly.
  • Cooking times may vary slightly depending on burger thickness and grill heat.
  • Use separate chopping boards for raw meat and vegetables to avoid cross-contamination.
  • For extra moisture, consider adding a splash of Worcestershire sauce or finely chopped onion to the beef mixture.
  • To ensure even cooking, avoid pressing down on the burgers once on the grill as this can squeeze out juices.
