Dough
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ cup whole milk, warmed
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
Filling
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, finely chopped
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Frosting
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2–3 tablespoons milk for desired consistency
- Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, melted butter, sugar, salt, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active. Add the eggs and gradually mix in the flour until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
- Prepare the filling: In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with sugar and vanilla extract until smooth. Fold in the finely chopped strawberries gently, combining evenly.
- Assemble the rolls: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle, approximately 16×12 inches. Spread the cream cheese and strawberry filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Starting from the long side, tightly roll the dough into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal slices and place them cut side up in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake the rolls: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the sweet rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly.
- Prepare the frosting: While the rolls are baking, beat together softened cream cheese and butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until the frosting reaches a smooth, spreadable consistency.
- Frost and serve: Spread the cream cheese frosting generously over the warm rolls. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- For softer and fluffier rolls, ensure the milk is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly.
- You can substitute strawberries with other fresh berries or fruits as desired.
- Store leftover rolls covered at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
- Reheat rolls gently in the microwave before serving to restore softness.
