Sweet Chili Crisp Chicken Bites are a flavorful and easy-to-make dish featuring tender chicken pieces coated in a crisp, sweet, and spicy chili sauce. Perfect as a snack or appetizer, these bites combine crispy sesame oil-coated chicken with a zesty sauce of chili crisp, honey, and lime juice, garnished with fresh green onions for an added burst of freshness.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Marinade

  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breast (or chicken thighs)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Sweet Chili Crisp Sauce

  • ¼ cup chili crisp
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice

For Cooking and Garnish

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 green onions, diced (thinly sliced)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Cut the chicken into 1-2 inch pieces. In a bowl or zip-top bag, combine the chicken with 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, 2 tablespoons lime juice, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well until the chicken is evenly coated.
  2. Make the Sweet Chili Crisp Sauce: In a separate bowl, whisk together the chili crisp, honey, and 1 tablespoon lime juice. Set the sauce aside while cooking the chicken.
  3. Cook the Chicken: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the remaining 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. Place the chicken pieces in the skillet, cooking without stirring for 3-4 minutes to develop a crisp exterior. Stir the chicken and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until mostly cooked through.
  4. Add the Sauce and Finish Cooking: Pour the sweet chili crisp sauce over the chicken in the skillet. Toss to coat and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked and the sauce is slightly caramelized.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat, garnish with the thinly sliced green onions, and serve warm for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use chicken thighs for juicier bites or chicken breasts for a leaner option.
  • Chili crisp can vary in spiciness; adjust the amount to your heat preference.
  • Ensure the skillet is hot before adding chicken for optimal crispiness.
  • This dish pairs well with steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container and reheated in a skillet for best texture.
